About Our School
A member of SAU 16, Stratham Memorial School is the elementary school for Stratham, NH, serving Preschool through Grade 5. After Grade 5, students advance to the Cooperative Middle School located in Stratham for Grades 6-8. Stratham Memorial School uses Responsive Classroom, which is an evidence-based approach to elementary education that focuses on the strong link between academic success and social-emotional learning. Each and every staff member of Stratham Memorial School is dedicated to positive growth and educational achievement for all students. Many of our highly-qualified teachers present at professional workshops and conferences throughout the United States to share and acquire best practices in order to deliver excellent education to all of our students.
Award-Winning
Stratham Memorial School earned the Seacoast Regional Elementary School of Excellence Award by the New Hampshire Excellence in Education Awards. For the past 21 years, we have been selected as a Blue Ribbon School by the New Hampshire Partners in Education.
Responsive
In their classrooms, our teachers incorporate the Four Key Domains of Responsive Classroom: Engaging Academics, Positive Community, Effective Management, and Developmental Awareness. Our classrooms are dynamic learning spaces, highlighting student artifacts, anchor charts, and motivational content to support the growth and retention of learning. Additionally, we promote and encourage all of our staff and students to use The Growth Mindset, which research has shown to increase learning, resiliency, and perseverance.
Well-Rounded
Our academic program centers around a balanced approach using the Lucy Calkins Units of Study in association with the Fountas and Pinnell philosophy. Implementing the workshop model across all subjects of the curriculum enables students to achieve at an individual rate while maintaining the rigor and challenge of the learning process. For Related Arts, students take part in the diverse curriculum of the Encore classes: Art, Library & Media, Makerspace & Technology, Music, and Physical Education.
Inclusive
In order to provide an appropriate education for all students, we use an inclusion model in each of the grades. Every kind of learner is actively engaged within all of our classroom activities, using an effective variety of strategies and methods to explore material, solve problems, gain knowledge, and learn from one another.
High-Tech
We are proud of our comprehensive technology equipment and programs. As part of SAU 16, Stratham Memorial School is a Google for Education school. All classrooms are outfitted with a variety of technology tools and resources. Each classroom in Kindergarten through Grade 1 has iPad and Chromebook centers. Students in Grades 2 through 5 are 1-to-1 with Chromebooks. All regular classrooms have interactive presentation devices, including Epson BrightLink projectors, Promethean Boards, SMART Boards, and IPEVO document cameras. Assistive and adaptive technologies are used to give all students equal opportunities for learning and growth. The technologies at Stratham Memorial School provide collaborative, inclusive, and engaging learning.
Involved
Community members are an integral part of Stratham Memorial School. Volunteers are often seen helping in classrooms throughout the school. Volunteers and teachers also conduct activities before and after school to provide a variety of enrichment programs. Some of the activities conducted by staff and community members have involved computer technology, music, art, writing, acting, cooking, athletics, world languages, and the designing and building of inventions from recycled materials. These are only some of the many wonderful activities available to our students. Many more enrichment opportunities take place here each day thanks to the dedication of the community and school staff. Whether supporting the American Heart Association or local food pantries, the Stratham Memorial School staff and students are always willing to lend a helping hand.
